Another fellow W&P reader here, coming to you from the Virginia Woolf Substack. The Leopard has long been on my TBR, so I will be trying to join in, although I too am a group-read overachiever, so who knows?
Oh, and I "learned" Italian back in 2018 in preparation for a trip there, so I may try to read the English and Italian versions in tandem to see if I can get back a little bit of my fluency.
Oh, it's great that you're opening your own club too! I'll gladly join and try to read on time (at least sometimes). Most likely, I'll be reading in English. But I noticed that there were two translations in Russian: one in 1961 and a newer one in 2006 (translated as Cheetah, not Leopard) 😅
It's so, so great to have you here, Dana! Take all the time you need, the word "late" doesn't exist on this page ❤️ If you want to read in Russian definitely grab the 2006 version, those translated before 1963 weren't based on the complete manuscript. And I talk about how different languages translated the title on Saturday's entry!
Fellow Italian here! So excited and looking forward to it. I also have to admit that I never got around to read Il gattopardo (shame on me), so maybe the time has come. Literature is my passion, but I've studied foreign languages and literatures and I mainly read in English and Romanian now. Capiti a fagiuolo 💜
Hello! I found you via F&T. This sounds fun! I am currently reading (well, listening to) The Betrothed by Alessandro Manzoni and it’s piqued my interest in Italian Literature. Count me in 🇮🇹
The Betrothed is such a tedious door stopper (or so I remember from my school days), you've already earned your honorary citizenship by tackling that monster. Welcome, Sharon!
The Betrothed is one of the books paid subscribers to the Close Reads podcast/Substack are reading together next year! It always amazes me how a book I have never heard of will suddenly pop up in multiple places at the same time.

The struggle is real, isn't it? Welcome, and definitely take your time, all entries will be here if/when you decide to join ❤️

Heads up, the Italian used here is not the easiest, definitely keep the English copy nearby for help!
Ellie! Fellow W&P slow reader here. I love your contributions there and I’ve had The Leopard on my TBR list forever. Count me in!
Thank you for joining us ❤️

Benvenuta! And it's never too late to discover a book, they tend to show up exactly when you need them.

😂 It’s certainly a chunky one!

Oh that’s interesting! Yes I know what you mean. I enjoyed The Betrothed but it is long. And very detailed.
Well, here’s another italian without any greater knowledge about italian literature! So count me in! 🥂🎉
Welcome!! It's gonna be fun, fun, fun. Also tragic and it might make you contemplate your own mortality! Fun!
