Just picked up my copy today, and had never heard of this book until you mentioned it in Simon's chat a few weeks ago! Looking forward to my second foray into Italian literature and second read-along/slow read (go Simon/W&P!), and learning more world history. Thanks for doing this!

It's great to have you here, Cindy! What was your first Italian book?

My Brilliant Friend/the Neapolitan novels, back when they were first published in the US. After googling, I reminded myself I did read a little Dante's Inferno and Machiavelli in high school, but that doesn't really count, does it? ;)

I never read the Neapolitan novels, I'll probably lose points for that. And yes, Dante and Macchiavelli definitely count!!

A bit late here and I’ll get to the first read soon hopefully, Ellie. I’m so excited to be reading this book again because I barely remember my first read except as a big rambling exciting melting pot of a book - like the island of Sicily itself. Loved the introduction 🩷

This is absolutely the kind of book that let you set your own pace, both mellow and exhilarating. Get to it at your own time, and enjoy the ride!

I once visited Sicily and took a train that was transported from the mainland by ferry. It was so cool that I still remember it vividly. Very interesting introduction. I'm starting to read the novel 👌🏼
